How old should my puppy/kitten be before he/she gets spayed/neutered?
The perfect age is 16 weeks.
How old should my puppy/kitten be to start getting vaccines?
We recommend to start vaccines at 8 weeks of age, and have boosters every 3-4 weeks. We recommend at least two rounds of vaccines for your pet to be totally protected.
Do I need an appointment for vaccines?
No. You can bring your pet in for vaccines anytime during shot clinic hours (M-S 9:30-3)
Day of surgery, how long do they stay?
Check-in is 8-8:30 for dogs, 8:30-9 for cats. Surgery is an outpatient procedure. Discharge is between 4:30 and 5:30 daily.
What is the recovery period?
The recovery period is 10-14 days. During that time you will need to restrict their activity, and monitor the incision closely.
What is the green mark near the surgery site?
This is a tattoo to identify that your pet has been spayed/neutered.
Do you use pain medication?
All pets receive pain medication before surgery. In addition you can purchase pain medication that will last for three days.
Can they eat or drink before surgery?
Water is ok. Food must be removed from dogs by midnight the night before surgery. Small kittens must eat a little food to keep their blood sugar up.
What vaccines do you offer?
Vaccines for cats- rabies, feline distemper (feline leukemia optional). Vaccines for dogs- rabies, distemper/parvo, bordetella (optional), leptospirosis (optional), Influenza vaccine (optional).
Do you microchip?
Yes, we believe strongly in microchipping. A microchip is $15. and can be done at the time of surgery or thru shot clinic.
Can I come in for just a rabies shot?
Yes. A rabies vaccine is $15 for the shot and a $15 office call. You can also purchase a tag at that time.
